WITH N.C. PHOTOS | Charleston bars, breweries, distilleries and restaurants are helping to to raise money and supplies for the Southeastern communities devastated by the effects of Helene.
Meanwhile, former Charleston resident Cappi Wilborn, who now lives near Cedar Mountain, N.C., sent several photos of conditions and what’s been happening in recovery efforts near her home.
Help from the Charleston area is on the way
Several restaurants are teaming up with Southern Smoke Foundation, a nonprofit that helps food and beverage workers during emergency situations. You can donate directly to Southern Smoke here. Among the places now helping:
Bar Rollins hosts a Charleston block party Oct. 6 with a portion of bottles and merch sold going to Southern Smoke.
Welton’s Tiny Bakeshop in Charleston will donate 10 % of all sales this week to Southern Smoke.
Starting today, Lenoir will sell a Cherry Bounce cocktail and donate a portion of its proceeds to Southern Smoke. According to Lenoir, “the Cherry Bounce is a cocktail long associated with North Carolina; Lenoir’s version is made with cinnamon-spiced cherry juice, lemon, Cathead vodka and topped with ginger beer.”
Now through Oct. 4, drink a beer at Revelry, Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co. (and restaurant), Coast and Munkle and $1 from every pint sold supports Water Mission’s relief efforts in Western North Carolina.
For the week of Oct. 1, Odd Duck Market is matching donations up to $2,000 to the hurricane relief efforts in the Appalachian foothills.
There are a lot of hyper local North Carolina and Asheville-specific organizations that could use monetary donations. Park & Grove listed some resources including Beloved Asheville, Manna Food Bank, Foothills Food Hub and more.
Charleston Climate Coalition has shared dropoff locations for supplies including at The Whale and Hobcaw Brewing. Several spots will be open to donations indefinitely including Cleats, The Junction, both Tattooed Moose locations and all Kickin’ Chicken locations.Be sure to check the social media pages of each location before dropping supplies off for times, dates and specific supply needs.
Clothes, canned goods, water and other essential items can be donated to both Pizza A Modo Mio locations now through Oct. 5.
You also can donate money at Baguette Magic or Venmo the business directly to send funds to struggling North Carolina communities.
