MORNING HEADLINES | Former President Joe Biden has an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has metastasized to the bone, according to a statement from his office. It cannot be cured, doctors say.
But with modern advances that have improved treatment and diagnosis, experts say people with similar conditions may live for years, often succumbing to something other than cancer.
“Life is measured in years now, not months,” Dr. Daniel W. Lin, a prostate cancer specialist at the University of Washington, told The New York Times.
U.S. Rep. James Clyburn, a leading South Carolina Democrat who has long been a close Biden ally, said he was saddened to hear of the diagnosis.
“My heartfelt prayers are with him and his family during this time,” he said in a statement. “We know Joe, and he has always been a fighter and faithful man full of courage. I join the nation in wishing him the utmost resilience, strength and a full recovery. Joe, we are with you.”
President Donald Trump added in a statement, “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
