Reports taken from April 8 to April 14

Horror buff’s dream?

A downtown man on April 14 called Charleston police when he “discovered his bicycle to be missing” early one foggy morning after he left it unlocked in his apartment complex’s parking lot. Stranded on foot in some thick Lowcountry fog? Talk about a nightmare — or some old-school horror movie fan’s dream come true.

The family business

Security footage at a West Ashley department store recorded two adults and a child shoplifting from the store on April 14, according to a Charleston police report. The adults were seen taking a casting net and a pair of socks from the fishing section. Meanwhile the kid reportedly unboxed a Nerf gun and presumably sneaked it out of the store. Well, who are we to judge a family’s choice of pastime?

Criminal of the year

North Charleston police are investigating the apparent theft of a $10,000 HVAC condensing unit taken from an Oregon Avenue home on April 8. Police noted the property is vacant, and there are no security cameras that captured the 2.5-ton unit being stolen. Beyond the numbers, disabling someone’s air conditioning right before May is basically evil. Shame.

Cheers all around!

Mount Pleasant police on April 12 stopped to speak with a homeless man sitting and eating in a U.S. Highway 17 parking lot after receiving a call about a “suspicious person” loitering outside of a business. Despite having an outstanding warrant from California, police told him as long as he moved along after he finished his meal, they would have no issues. And great news: That’s where the report ends.
