Reports taken from May 1 to May 3

Second chances
A James Island man on May 3 called Charleston police to report a group of kids “digging” around a public park on Fort Johnson Road. He told police he was worried they were searching for “historic treasures.” He first told officers he wanted the kids banned from the property, but later changed his mind, saying he’d rather they be let off with a warning. That’s a really wholesome ending — unrelated, but have you seen our shovel?
Bring them inside
A North Charleston man on May 2 called city police to report someone stole his bicycle from outside of his Rivers Avenue hotel room a little after noon. The man said he left the bike in the hall totally unsecured and didn’t have any idea who took it. Look, we know some handlebars can be a little too wide for comfort, but there’s no way it couldn’t have fit through the door.
Backed up
An unidentified Mount Pleasant driver on May 1 reportedly braked in a drive-through car wash on Ben Sawyer Boulevard , causing a mild three-car pile-up in the tunnel, according to Mount Pleasant police. But the braking driver fled the scene before police arrived. Sometimes it just seems like you need a little extra time under the hose.
Unlucky
In other stolen bike-related news, North Charleston police on May 1 spotted a man riding a bike matching the description of one that was previously reported stolen. Though police later confirmed the bikes didn’t match, the rider of the bike apparently did have several small baggies of illegal drugs, police said. How’s that for unintended consequences?
