Reports taken from May 21 to May 30
Fowl play
A North Charleston police officer on May 29 reported that a bird flew in front of his patrol car, striking the passenger-side mirror and dislodging the glass from its housing. The bird was reportedly unharmed, and the mirror was able to be put back into place with no permanent damage to the vehicle. No word on whether police plan to put out a BOLO for the bird for its clear assault and battery on an officer.
Wait a second …
A North Charleston man told city police on May 29 that while he was inside a Northwoods Boulevard store, a replica Chucky doll was stolen from its display inside his vehicle. Well, we think we speak for everyone involved when we say we sure hope it was stolen. The alternative would be far, far worse. The investigation is ongoing.
Make another call
Security footage on May 29 from a Spruill Avenue clothing store captured two suspects entering, collecting items in a shopping cart and leaving without paying. Employees told North Charleston police that one of the suspects, a woman, was wearing a pink jumpsuit with orange stripes. Our recommendation: Make an extra call to the fashion police. They might be able to crack the case.
BOLO: Eye patch
Mount Pleasant police on May 30 observed a driver “swerving all over” U.S. Highway 17, according to a report. Officers attempted to stop the driver, who they described as an elderly woman wearing an eye patch. Police noted she seemed “extremely confused” as she led officers on a low-speed chase across the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, where officers opted to abandon the stop and let her drive on. Guess they figured Charleston police could handle it, huh?
Where ya goin’?
When not on the lookout for an eye-patch-wearing elderly woman, Charleston police on May 21 met with a West Ashley store manager after an employee reportedly stole 21 items, including two pairs of headphones, a “female product” and more than a dozen unknown things from a $10 bin. Police told the manager not to tell the employee about the investigation in hopes they can catch a future theft on video.
