MORNING HEADLINES | The coming week brings celebrations for Juneteenth, which is widely recognized as the nation’s second Independence Day as commemorating the day slavery ended. Read more.
Among the holiday’s Friday events will be the “Juneteenth on the Yard” at the International African American Museum, which will be open all day for free. At noon, five hours of events start at the downtown museum.

- Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Living Legacies: A Juneteenth Commemoration, Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, West Ashley
- Friday, 6 p.m.: 6th annual Gullah Juneteenth, downtown
- Friday, 6 p.m.: Juneteenth Liberation Festival, North Charleston
- Friday, 6 p.m.: Rhythm and Roots, Summerville
- Saturday, 8 p.m.: Juneteenth Family Fest, Riverfront Park, North Charleston.
