Forge your own for America’s 250th
Celebrate the United States’ 250th anniversary by stepping back in time and experiencing the craftsmanship that helped build the nation. The Forge at Charleston Adventure Forest is inviting guests to work with fire and steel to forge a tomahawk and steel candle holder to take home as a one-of-a-kind keepsakes. No experience necessary. All supplies will be provided.

Raising Readers at Charleston Animal Society
Charleston Animal Society is partnering with Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers for its second- annual Raising Readers summer program. Kids from age 5 and up are invited to read aloud to shelter animals in a calm and nurturing environment, helping young readers build confidence and fluency. The youngsters also provide much-needed comfort to shelter pets who thrive on positive human interaction.

Fourth of July retro market

Mount Pleasant Farmers Market
Founded in 1998, the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market celebrates the hard work of local farmers and makers. This summer, step into the Fairies and Flowers exhibit at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens — a dreamy adventure through more than 20 whimsical fairy village dwellings along acres of winding garden paths. Take in layered scenes and stories among the historic gardens, and discover hidden treasures tucked throughout the displays skillfully crafted by Charleston artists.

Smoking star: Charleston pitmaster and Palmira Barbecue’s Hector Garate will compete on Food Network’s new series, Pitmasters. Premiering on July 13, Pitmasters features barbecue teams from across the country for a live-fire cooking competition that is judged by Andrew Zimmern, Jess Pryles, Moe Cason and Ernest Servantes. The show will first air at 9 p.m. July 13 and can be streamed on HBO Max the next day. More: foodnetwork.com
Caffeine fix: Point Break Coffee has opened a second location at 49 Archdale St. Operating every day but Wednesdays, it joins the original location at 520 Folly Road, which was named Chill Charleston before rebranding. Rip and dip: PopUp Bagels, the “Not Famous, but Known” bagel brand, opened its first South Carolina shop in Charleston on July 3 at 83 Mary St. This location is the first of five confirmed shops across the state. French fete: Summerville’s Kersey House is hosting a Bastille Day dinner party at 6 p.m. July 14 The multi-course dinner will have a wine pairing with live music. Dishes include tempura-fried escargot, salmon Wellington and peach mille-feuille. Cost: $75 per person.

Noodling: Luther’s Market + Noodle Shop, a new market at 227 Rutledge Ave., in July will offer its noodle making classes. One class option hosts a two hour hand-made noodlemaking session where guests learn to make three shapes of pasta. A second includes two hours of pasta-making and highlights stuffed shapes using semolina and pork-stuffed dumplings with buckwheat.
