Reports taken from June 22 to July 5

Gang o’ scooters

The scooter gang seemed to have struck again. Mount Pleasant police got another call on June 25 in a continuing about a group of children knocking on doors and scooter-ing away. The caller told officers he was “concerned about his family’s safety” and that he wanted to ban the kids from the property. But, as usual, police were unable to find, catch or identify any suspects. Guess there’s a reason their modes of transport are called scooters.

Hi, it’s me again

A North Charleston woman on July 4 called city police to report her vehicle as stolen after it was towed by a local company. Police told her that was a civil matter, and there was nothing they could do. She called back later the same day, after retrieving her vehicle, to report that someone had been inside her vehicle and that her “steering wheel had been turned all the way to the left.” Those liberal miscreants!

Points for honesty

Charleston police on June 22 stopped to question a man drinking a can of beer on East Bay Street. He reportedly matched the description of a recent shoplifter from a nearby convenience store. According to a police report, they asked what he was doing, and he said, “Drinking a beer.” Police then asked if he had stolen it, and he replied, “Yes, I did.” Wow, a rare double confession. Too bad in this case, the honesty only counted toward his arrest.

Stick to the story

Over in North Charleston, police on July 3 arrested a man for drinking in public while he was sitting in an alley near a Rivers Avenue church. The man reportedly gave police several false names, each with a different date of birth. Either this man is so deep undercover he’s losing track of which identity he’s supposed to be using — or he’s already a few deep. The former seems more fun.

Free parking, right?

Mount Pleasant police on July 5 responded to a Coleman Boulevard parking garage after receiving calls about a broken parking gate. Police said they are unsure if the gate was broken by a vehicle entering or exiting the garage. One witness said he saw the gate sticking straight up and getting caught on the ceiling. Sure, sure, whatever — we can park for free, right?
