No such thing

A downtown man on Oct. 3 reportedly stole a sub sandwich and a bottled ice coffee from a Meeting Street gas station without so much as a word to the store employee, even after he asked, “Are you going to pay for that?” First, rude. Second, security footage caught the whole thing, including the alleged thief’s face, and you know what they say about a free lunch. Police are investigating.

Vigilante justice

The Mount Pleasant juvenile e-bike gang took a hit on Oct. 24 when someone stole a kid’s bike while it was parked outside of a Long Grove Drive department store. The boy told officers it was a white Juniper e-bike with an empty rack for a basket and a bungee cord wrapped around the rack. Police put out a BOLO and then, we have to assume, went back to the station to celebrate the little victories.

Phew, close one

Mount Pleasant police on Oct. 23 arrested a man for public intoxication after he told them (with pizza clinging to the corner of his mouth) that he was sorry for causing a commotion and that he had a room at a nearby hotel. Police called the desk, however, and the clerk said he didn’t have a room. But wait, there’s a twist: Before they got to the station, the hotel called back to say they found his room, and he was un-arrested … on the spot.

Not the same

Charleston police on Oct. 3 responded to a parked bus on Meeting Street where an apparently drunken man was refusing to get off. The man reportedly had been cursing with slurred speech at other passengers and the driver, making the entire bus reek of alcohol. Officers arrested the man for disorderly conduct after forcibly escorting him off the bus.
