In the spirit of the festive AquaPalooza (which went down in mid-summer near Morris Island), veteran Charleston groove-rock band Uncle Mingo plans to float up Shem Creek on a barge (or a scruffy sailboat) on Thurs. Oct. 1 for a special dockside evening concert at the water’s edge of Red’s Icehouse (98 Church St.).

"We’ve got a lot of new stuff, and we’ve gone back and reworked some old classics we haven’t played for years," says keyboardist/sax player Jason Moore. "It sounds like a great gig if the weather cooperates." Indeed. Mingo jams from 7-9 p.m.

Maybe Moore and the bandmates — Mookie, Mo, and G-money — will be like the Sex Pistols doing "Pretty Vacant" on the Thames River … or U2 on the barge in that video clip for "Gloria" … or like the Hues Corporation with a cover of "Rock the Boat" … or like Deep Purple with a wild rendition of "Smoke on the Water."
