We made a blog post yesterday regarding campaign finance reports showing André Bauer paid for a phone survey on Sept. 9, days after a rumor about his sexuality hit the mainstream press.

We contacted the Lt. Gov. for a comment. His office offered to pass on the message since it was an issue for the campaign.

The post went live about 25 minutes after calling Bauer’s office. We know that because his office (Note: not the campaign) called this morning to give us a hard time for doing so without hearing back from the campaign.

FYI: We’re still waiting and we’re happy to update the post.

Will Folks appears to have gotten to the bottom of it with a response from an unnamed campaign source.

“The Charleston City Paper should stick to covering entertainment news,” said a Bauer advisor.

More to the point, Bauer’s campaign says that it conducted the poll in question “well over a month” before the internet rumors began circulating, and that the date appearing in the campaign finance documents was simply “the date that the bill for the poll was paid.”

The purpose of the poll was to “test messages” and gauge the impact of the scandals surrounding S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford.

And that, my friends, is your entertainment news for the day.
