On Nov. 11, a sad notification was released via the Hippodrome’s Twitter account: “ITS– OFFICIAL—– LAST 2 MOVIES —-HARRY POTTER & TRON—–THE END IS NEAR.”

Owner Michael Furlinger has been hinting for months that the theater would close by the end of the year unless there was a drastic turnaround.

When we tried getting in touch with Furlinger, he replied via e-mail, “Our last 2 films will be Harry Potter Part 1 and Tron. That is the only comment we have at this time.”

Looks like downtown Charleston is going to lose yet another movie theater, but with those two films, at least they’ll go out with a bang. Get your tickets while you can.
