Up-and-coming songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Conor Donohue, a student at the College of Charleston, will celebrate the release of a new solo album titled Sway this week. The 10-song collection was produced by Donohue and veteran songsmith Joel T. Hamilton and mixed by Josh Kaler (of Slow Runner) at Kaler’s Hello Telescope studio downtown. Guest musicians on the tracks include members of the Jazz Artists of Charleston and the Shrimp Records collective.
Donohue performs at the Tin Roof on Mon. April 30 with backing from Hamilton, three members of Faces for Radio (drummer Stuart White, pianist Gerald Gregory, and guitarist Tyler Ross), singer Lindsay Holler, and a small brass section led by sax player Simon Harding. Hamilton’s new project Mechanical River and drummer Jack Burg’s one-man band Punks and Snakes open. The live music starts at 8:15 p.m. Admission is $5.
