Who: Kathleen Wilson, an extraordinary woman who, after slugging it out for five hard-fought rounds, was elected Charleston City Councilwoman representing parts of James Island (12th district). In addition, Ms. Wilson is the principal harpist with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and a long-time long-distance swimmer (which means going all out for a minimum of 8 hours or 20 miles).
Favorite Lunch Spot: When she occasionally finds the time to leave the practice hall, the swimming pool, or the office and go out for lunch, Kathleen invariably heads to Slightly North of Broad at 192 East Bay St. Why SNOB? Because the atmosphere is lovely; it’s a nice downtown spot; there’s an open kitchen (“I’m nosy and like to see what’s going on”); and lastly, “the food is pretty darn good.”
Preferred Lunch Dish: From among all that “pretty darn good food,” Ms. Wilson usually dives into the sautéed chicken salad, consisting of country ham, blue cheese, Granny Smith apples, pecans, and arugula with balsamic vinaigrette ($8). Being a “creature of the water,” Ms. Wilson drinks mostly water. Of course, a dedicated athlete like her would never order dessert, right? Not so. Working out so much, she burns off all excess calories. Her favorite? “Anything chocolate.”
