Every lisper’s nightmare, Ruth’s Chris Steak House announced plans today to bring its “signature sizzle” to Charleston. The chain will open in the French Quarter Inn in the spot formerly home to Tristan. A press release tells us that, “Co-owners Mark and Nancy Oswald, the largest franchisees of the internationally acclaimed brand, also co-own and operate the three existing Ruth’s Chris restaurants in South Carolina in Greenville, Columbia, and Myrtle Beach, as well as Ruth’s Chris restaurants in Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee.”
We were hopeful that the restaurant to replace Tristan would be as unique and local as its predecessor. Alas, the Market’s march toward mainstream American dining continues.
