The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority announced on Thursday that it will lift its standard fares on Election Day to encourage the Lowcountry to get out the vote.
“We want all eligible voters in the Lowcountry to have access to one of our country’s fundamental rights, without having to overcome mobility or economic barriers,” said CARTA Chairman Mike Seekings, who is also a member of Charleston City Council.
The standard CARTA fares are $2.00 per ride and $0.50 per transfer. Express one-way tickets are $3.50 per ride.
