The Charleston City Paper publishes verified paid obituaries and memorials.
If you wish to run an obituary in our newspaper or a memorial for someone who has died, you can submit information on the person who has died through our online obituary and memorial application form, which is operated by our Classified Advertising department. You can find the form by clicking here.
All forms must be completed in full before publication. You must include the name and contact information of the funeral home that is handling or handled the arrangements. No obituary or death memorial is published without verification from the funeral home.
Costs and payment
Paid obituaries and memorials start at $60.00 and include up to 60 words plus a photo submitted by you. It’s free to include a photo, but a photo is not required.
If you want a longer obituary or memorial, as many people do, the cost is $3.00 for every additional five words. Through our online form, you can write the obituary you want, find out how much it costs and edit to adjust the cost. If you have any questions, contact our Classified Advertising department.
Payment is made online through a credit card. Your card will not be charged until the obituary is verified by a funeral home and approved by the Charleston City Paper..
Notices of deaths and memorials of those who have died are published in print each Wednesday after payment and verification. Notices are published online on our website with 24 hours of payment and verification.
