Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Tyler Boone has preserved his Charleston roots with his Americana-prone alternative rock, but his new single released March 18, “Wicked Girl” is straightforward blues rock. The new song is a collaborative product of Boone’s travels between Nashville and Charleston, with the final tracks recorded at Big Animal Studio on Johns Island.
“I was newly single from a really bad relationship, so I left L.A for two months,” Boone said.. “I had an idea for a riff — very Black Keys, Jack White, Gary Clark Jr. sort of thing.”
The final product is the guitar-driven, “Wicked Girl,” featuring Peter Keys from Lynyrd Skynyrd on electric organ.
“It’s really just about, ‘You dated someone bad’ — when I was dating that person I wasn’t very creative,” Boone said. “That’s why I booked some studio time, because it was going to make me feel better, like I was taking back control of what I like to do.”
In addition to an upcoming album, Boone is organizing a day festival at Holy City Brewing in North Charleston July 16 to celebrate his Boone’s Bourbon special-release Holy City brew, Boone’s Beer, in collaboration with 105.5 The Bridge.
