Davis Advertising celebrated its 25th anniversary with a fabulous fete at Boone Hall on Wednesday night. Although the invitation called for optional “period attire,” I was reluctant to believe that guests would adopt the costume cue. I could have not been more wrong. Throngs of festive party-goers arrived clad in an eclectic array of antebellum attire. Fried game meats, booming cannon fire, live gospel music, and a motley band of re-enactors made for quite the trip back in time. Even Father Christmas kept in vintage character; he offered me a mule instead of the Range Rover that tops my list. Bah! On Thursday, The Greater Charleston Hotel and Motel Association hosted its annual Hospitality Hoe Down at Tom Doyle’s red barn, which was complete with wandering animals (Colleen Connor and I were nearly sideswiped by an errant rooster). Several thousand people heeded an early wake-up call on Saturday for the 28th annual Kiawah Island Marathon. Brisk temperatures and high winds motivated runners to move along the course, while scores of familiar faces dotted the post-race party. Bundle up! Baby, it’s cold outside.
