Andolini’s Pizza
Pizza
Entrées $5-$10
Downtown. 82 Wentworth St. 722-7437; West Ashley. 1117 Savannah Hwy. 225-5200; Mt. Pleasant. 414 W. Coleman Blvd. 849-7437
Lunch and Dinner
Andolini’s used to be accessible only to downtown folks willing to search for a parking spot around Wentworth Street. However, as Michael and Edie Rabin’s empire has spread, so has Andolini’s — to both Mt. P and West Ashley and a new James Island location opening soon. The Jeremy’s Special, spiked with briny green olives, spicy pickled jalapeño slices, and extra garlic is one of our dragon-breath favorites. For the more timid diner, there are plenty of toppings for the build-your-own slices to accompany simple iceberg salads with black olives and shredded mozzarella cheese. And the downtown location still produces the best pizza smell in town.

EVO
Pizza
Entrées $5-$10
568-8338
We’d like to tell you where EVO (“Extra Virgin Oven”) Pizza is located, but the catch is that they’re really not ‘located’ anywhere (but try www.evopizza.com). They have a very capable mobile wood-burning pizza oven that seems to pop up at local events, farmers’ markets, andparties without warning, but to the delight of all those around. By far, the best pizza we’ve had outside of Brooklyn. They burn wood at Park Circle Coffee & Cream once a week, and cater a range of local public and private events, but all you need to know is this — if you see them, run to the oven-wagon and wait for a pie to appear. The last one we had was a swiss chard pizza that we still mention wistfully. Seriously. Look for these folks to be everywhere, yesterday.

Mellow Mushroom
Pizza
Entrées $5-$10
Downtown. 309 King St. 72-FRESH (723-7374)
Lunch and Dinner
Mellow Mushroom is an amusement park of pizza with a huge oven in the back, an expanded bar area upstairs, plenty of beer, and a menu of sandwiches that will satisfy just about anyone. The creative assortment of toppings makes pizza new again, and the crispy crust underneath provides a delicious base for it all. Whether you keep it simple with pepperoni or get fancy with pesto, Mellow Mushroom will put it in the oven for you.

Woody’s
Pizza
Entrées $5-$10
Folly Beach. 39 Center St. 588-0088
Lunch and Dinner
Woody’s blends right into the old Folly Beach feeling with its huge surfboard sign and shack-like presence on Center Street. The takeout-or-dine-in pizza and assortment of sub sandwiches fill a need that many Folly folks feel often, whether right around lunch or after a day on the beach. The pizza is great — really — and the vibe is old-school Folly, something we can never have too much at the Edge of America. Grab a beer and plunk down on the porch to watch the tourists attempt to drive home.
