DJ Moo Moo
He’s the guy in the mix booth at Torch, Raval, and Purple Tree Lounge, and for your information, yes, “Moo Moo” is what even his parents call him — not just a DJ alias. Moo Moo’s been spinning for just four years (the name was a handle given by his father when he was an infant), but he’s clearly set himself apart from the pack — this is the second consecutive year he’s danced off with the Best Club DJ award from readers. Before becoming a full-time vinyl hound, Moo Moo worked at the Mt. Pleasant Waterworks and Sewer Commission. He started spinning as a hobby, inspired by his uncle, and his first gig was in 2003 at Club Trio with DJ Ali, whom Moo Moo credits with giving him his start. These days he makes a full-time living spinning at downtown clubs, as well as at special events including weddings and private parties. Moo Moo firmly believes that DJs are there for the crowd — not for themselves — so he happily takes requests.
