Athens Restaurant

James Island. 1939 Maybank Hwy. 795-0957

We all know that Athens has been the place for family-style Greek feasts for generations of Charlestonians, but who would’ve thought they would morph into a commercial juggernaut? You can still grab a great meze platter, delicious tzatziki, gyros, and a selection of Greek pizzas. But next door, in the newly constructed “Athenian Village” out on Maybank Highway, you can visit the “Café” and grab a seriously good Greek coffee, all types of authentic desserts like baklava, or drop by the “Pizza Express” and get your flatbread to go. With this type of expansion, it seems Athens has its eyes firmly set on taking over the Greek food world of Charleston. The Turkish places around town better look out.
