Blue Dogs
For as long as the City Paper‘s been polling our readers, local rock/roots band Blue Dogs have scratched around at the top of the Best Local Band category. Popular for their folksy, sunshiny sound and heartfelt harmonies, guitarist/lead vocalist Bobby Houck and upright/electric bassist Hank Futch have been the core of the Dogs since the beginning. They’ve stayed quite busy for the last two years, touring behind their recent studio album, Halos & Good Buys, and their new DVD, Live at the House of Blues (shot at the Myrtle Beach venue). With acoustic anthems, respectfully-rendered bluegrass traditionals, folk-rock standards, and country versions of modern rock and pop songs, they once again win the readers’ pick for Best Original Local Band.
