If you haven’t yet managed to catch PURE Theatre’s remarkable production of José Rivera’s play Cloud Tectonics, this weekend marks the official end of the play’s regular-season run at the little theatre in the Cigar Factory. (Note there’s no Saturday evening show, since actor Matt Bivins will be performing with his other stage incarnation, Cabaret Kiki, at the Charleston Fashion Week gala in Marion Square that night.) Word’s just dropped off the grapevine, however, that PURE will be remounting Cloud Tectonics for a Piccolo run, where it will share space with a still-unknown production from Piccolo’s Theatre Series. So if you’re kicking yourself for missing it this time around (and you should be), you’ve been granted a mulligan.

In other PURE news, it seems rumors of the contemporary theatre company’s pending forced evacuation of the Cigar Factory are much exaggerated. Sources say the building’s new owner may grant them a repreive and extend their lease for as much as another full season before they turn the historic structure into condos. PURE’s also hired longtime ensemble member R.W. “Smitty” Smith (True West, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, Grace) as a full-time company manager. Congrats, Smitty. —PS
