On Friday, Spoleto Festival USA and Piccolo Spoleto will be exactly one month away. Sure, that means nothing to you — a month to kick back, relax, enjoy spring, work on your tan. But while you’re enjoying yourself and working on your beer gut, thousands of people will be developing ulcers and living in constant cold sweats trying to prepare for the city-encompassing twin performing arts festivals — me among them. But don’t worry about us, we’ll be fine. You just enjoy your magarita, kay?

In the meantime, if you feel like dragging your butt out of that lawn chair, you can catch a preview on Saturday of what Theatre 99 has in store for you with its Piccolo Fringe next month. On Saturday, The Have Nots and the rest of the T99 gang offer up a tapas-style sampling of almost all the local acts that are part of the 20-act, five-site Piccolo Fringe program this May and June. Saturday night’s program includes short selections from the Nots!, Improv Smackdown, The Banana Monologues, Cabaret Kiki, Big Dicktionary, Hobo the Musical, Moral Fixation, and The Complete History of Charleston for Morons.

The comedy chowdown starts at 8pm sharp (never walk in late to an improv show), and tix are just $15. Matter of fact, the first 50 people through the door get one of the snappy new Piccolo Fringe posters, hot off the press courtesy of Gil Shuler Graphic Design and the inspired Amy Pastre. Say what you will about Theatre 99, you can’t accuse ‘em of putting out a shabby poster.
