The week started on Thursday afternoon at the sixth annual “It’s In The Bag” event at the City Gallery at Waterfront Park. A silent purse auction and reception benefited the Center for Women, which promotes personal and professional success for Lowcountry ladies. Afterward, I caught the second half of Casino Royale at the always-popular Movies in Marion Square. This Thursday will be Pee-wee’s Big Adventure — hopefully we won’t have any public exposure arrests.

Friday afternoon I went to Ted’s Butcherblock, in the Blockbuster shopping center on East Bay Street, for a fantastic wine and cheese tasting. Cheese lovers take note — Ted’s selection was so good it brought out my inner Fievel. Later that night, Mr. Evening, the shadow puppet show behind Read Brothers on King Street, was really cool and around 75 folks sat in the grass and enjoyed the very entertaining performances.

The weather was perfect on Saturday, so I headed out to the Windjammer on Isle of Palms to hit the beach and watch the volleyball tournament. Sunday was the 20th Annual Blessing of the Fleet and Seafood Festival at Alhambra Hall in Mt. Pleasant’s Old Village. I highly recommend this event because it has a little something for everyone — local seafood, great music by the East Coast Party Band, clowns, a shag contest, neat boats, a shrimp-eating contest, and gorgeous scenery. Definitely my favorite event of an event-filled week. Bring your kids or your coolers next year and enjoy a great Charleston tradition.
