It seems Ida Becker is miffed with me. In plugging our own Spoleto Party Blog – the online iteration of the City Paper’s Scene column during the fest – I let loose with a wee bit of snark, as happens sometimes, all in good fun. And so at last night’s Faustus afterparty, the Charleston Magazine social reporter crept up on me and snapped a photo of my shoes (Mezlans, 12M, for anyone who cares), which she’s posted to her blog. It was quite clever of her, and I got a laugh out of it.

Ida’s not linking in this direction*, though, since word has it she’s discouraged by her employers from linking to any competing media blogs. Which seems a shame, since the gang at the P&C’s Spoleto Today are doing a bang-up job with their coverage this year, and even The State is in on the action, and the whole point of this effort is to provide Charlestonians a look at what Spoleto really is by lifting up the hood and peering in, not just serving them another exercise in corporate branding. And isn’t Spoleto about inclusion, about reuniting friendships and close associations, especially this year? (This whole business is nudged into meta-territory by the fact that Ida covered Spoleto’s social circuit last year for the City Paper, and I was editor of Charleston Magazine for four years.)

It’s a hyperlinked world today, and there’s no going back. The web is a universe apart. And that’s a good thing.

(*10pm update:  Thanks for the link, Ida!)
