Much like you (or most of you) I had better things to do on Oscar night than watch the festivities. But the word today is about what wasn’t on the show.
In the required dead-star presentation (you know: sad, dramatic music, fade to black, go to commercial for the new SUV), there were some 100 recognized for their work — except Brad Renfro. The star of The Client, Apt Pupil, and … well, a few other films, was left out of the list for space reasons. Renfro died of a drug overdose about a few weeks before Heath Ledger.
“It was really an editing decision because we can’t fit everyone in,” the rep told Usmagazine.com. “There was no specific reason.”
There was also some montage with Oscar Award show moments that apparently included every host except for Whoopi and Steve Martin.
“Undoubtedly, I pissed somebody off once again,” Goldberg said, to which Walters replied, “We think you’re a great host.”
