James Oliver Rigney, aka Robert Jordan

Charleston lost one of its greatest imaginations on Sept. 16, 2007. James Oliver Rigney, known as Robert Jordan, was the author of the 11-volume series of fantasy novels titled the Wheel of Time. He died after a long illness, leaving behind a legion of admirers, fans, and people fanatical about the mythical universe he spent a lifetime creating. He was 58 and a proud graduate of The Citadel who served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War. We might have lost Rigney, but his books will be with us for a long time. According to his publisher, Tor, they have sold more than 14 million copies.
