For decades, the intersection of Magnolia Road and Highway 61 was home for decades to the West Ashley Bait & Tackle Shop, a store that began selling nightcrawlers and evolved into slinging Budweiser. Resurrected into a “bluegrass tavern” in 2005, complete with the best barbecue shrimp ‘n’ grits and authentic cheese curds in town, the bar was a friendly, homey joint. When it closed, the legions of patrons worried we’d get condos, a flower shop, a dentist … who knew? Fortunately, good, music-loving, drinking folks bought the lease. The blue walls were painted red and black, and a spooky haunted tree painting was plastered to the wall behind the new stage. The music schedule is buzzing, their gourmet hotdogs are a hit, and fortunately for us writers, they’ve kept the PBR cheap and cold.
