Pho Bac has moved around a bit, but that spicy Southeast Asian smell is hard to shake. Big bowlfuls of long-simmered broth now pour forth at their North Charleston location — it’s no coincidence that one of the best Asian groceries in the Lowcountry resides next door, nor that the pho (that’s Vietnamese beef soup for those out of the loop) is the best in town. Slow simmered and full of just-cooked strips of beef and lots of slurpy noodles, it makes mom’s chicken soup feel like a half-assed effort. Next time you’ve got that winter cold and a sniffling nose, pack the car and get the whole family a big, steaming bowl.
