Slowrunner’s Shiv

Melodic indie-pop quartet Slow Runner survived a tumultuous 2006-’07 — a roller-coaster ride from major label action to contract hell and back. Singer/keyboardist Michael Flynn and drummer/guitarist Josh Kaler celebrated their bounce-back into happyland with the autumn release of a terrific new studio album titled Shiv — a self-produced effort full of a rich Wurlitzer and piano — a keyboard-centric sound with a layering of multiple instruments wrapping around it. Bassist Jonathan Gray (formerly of Jump) and guitarist Scott Baumil (formerly of the Young Republicans) joined in to perform a few big shows in recent months. Sophisticated, spacious, and elegant.
