Spending half his time in Charleston and half in the hill country of northern Mississippi, talented slide guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist Davis Coen has built a fine reputation as a genuine blues cat. Versatile, soulful, and well-versed with various styles of southern, urban, and country-style blues, Coen is always a regular standout act during the annual Lowcountry Blues Bashes and Piccolo Spoleto blues events. Released on the 219 label last spring, Coen’s 13-song studio album Ill Disposition stomps with hot licks, expressive slide guitar work, and occasional harmonica. Robert Johnson, Junior Kimbrough, and Mississippi John Hurt are tapping their feet somewhere right now.
