Based in the newly-rejuvenated Noisette developments in North Charleston, organic microbrewery Coast Brewing Company celebrated a series of releases of several fine new ales this fall and winter. Brewers/proprietors David Merritt and Jaime Tenny should be mighty proud of their light and malty 32/50 Kölsch, their highly-hopped, full-bodied Hop Art I.P.A., and their intensely malty Chocolate Rye Brown ale, which burst with dense chocolate and caramel malt flavor and aroma (at around a seven percent alcohol content by volume). This season, they released a new Scotch Ale (a strong, super-malty brown ale brewed with heather) and, in addition to kegs, started distributing bottles of their entire line to select restaurants and bars, including EVO, Gene’s Haufbrau, Charleston Beer Works, Taco Boy, El Bohio, Red Drum Gastropub, and Johnson’s Pub. What a local specialty!
