Magwood’s is currently closed for the winter, but when the shrimp season kicks back up in May, wind your way through the Old Village streets back to the old white building by the boat docks on Shem Creek. There you’ll find shrimp fresh from the boat at wholesale prices that are far cheaper than any store. You can get them with the heads on or off, as you prefer. And why heads on? For starters, you can use them for shrimp stock, a magical concoction that makes sauces and seafood dishes twice as rich and flavorful. Or, just serve them whole to freak out squeamish dinner guests.
