The Miracle League gives kids with disabilities the opportunity to play team sports. The Charleston chapter was started by Channing Proctor a few years ago and has grown into a vibrant community with both youth and adult teams. A Summerville chapter was recently started too. The leagues are volunteer organized and run, with buddies helping the players field balls and run the bases. It’s pretty amazing to witness a kid round home base for the first time and see his parents rejoice and his face break into a huge grin. It’s a moment just begging to be played in slo-mo with a Garth Brooks ballad playing in the background. But even without the TV effects, spectators are frequently seen blubbering on the bleachers as they witness such an uplifting event.
