Put Taylor Mac on that list, too. He’s Divine, RuPaul, Eddie Izzard, and Curry all rolled into one. That, and plays the ukulele. Mac is part of Spoleto Festival USA’s line-up of identity politics-inspired art, which includes Amistad, Marc Bamuthi Joseph’s the break/s, Heddy Maalem’s re-visioning of The Rite of Spring, and of course The Be(a)st of Taylor Mac, who’s holding down the gay side of the spectrum.
