The Census has released a few new state breakdowns:
• South Carolina is ranked 34th among states in regards to foreign born residents. We’re at 4.3 percent. North Carolina is at 7 percent and Georgia is at 9.1 percent.
• 62.8 percent of South Carolina residents were born in the state. There are similar numbers in neighboring states.
• 5.9 percent of South Carolina residents speak a language other than English in their homes, among the lowest in the nationa. It’s about half the number that speak another language at home in Georgia.
