DESIGN | There’s no place like home

The Charleston Home Market, presented by Charleston Home magazine, shines the spotlight on Lowcountry designers and craftsmen who create products to make your home more beautiful. Local shops and businesses like Boyd Boggs Furniture Design, The Urban Electric Co., Charleston Architectural Glass, Lulan, and more will show off their goods and make Chucktown proud. The weekend kicks off with the Upper King Design Walk on Thursday from 5 -8 p.m. From Calhoun to Spring, the fashion-forward shops of Upper King will stay open late for shoppers, with special events and refreshments. Many of the restaurants will have food and wine specials after 8 p.m., and the Charleston Ballet Theatre will offer a free peek at dances from their upcoming season beginning at 8 p.m. Friday is Trade Day at 10 Storehouse Row, which is open to interior designers, architects, and buyers. The day allows the pros to get a close look at everything from contemporary furniture and glass to innovative lighting and textiles, and includes trade demonstrations and lectures. On Saturday, it’s open to the public with demos from the Philip Simmons Foundation on Ornamental Ironworking and Cone 10 Studios on Design Elements in Contemporary Pottery, among others, as well as lectures from antiques expert Judith Miller and style expert Susan Sully.  www.charlestonhomemarket.com. Oct. 23-25, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
