I approach this write-up with some trepidation. If I rave about the Upper King Design Walk last Thursday, will it go the way of the Art Walk? That is to say, will crowds pack the trendy shops so tightly that it doesn’t leave room for browsing, or even socializing? Rather than walking right on up and grabbing a glass of Chambord and champagne, will we be jostled in the wine line for 15 minutes? Will the veggie platters be gobbled up in nanoseconds, or will we be presented with plentiful spreads of fruit, cookies, and hummus? Hey, I still love the Art Walk, but I want the Design Walk to stay the way it is: small enough to allow for special treats like spiked snow cones (at Wonderland), mini cupcake samples (Cupcake), and performances from Charleston Ballet Theatre and the Arthur Brothers. So if anyone asks, tell them to avoid the next Upper King Design Walk. Who likes that kind of stuff, anyway? See photos from the event at calendar.ccpblogs.com.
