The CW is touting that it will have all new episodes on Tuesday night while every other channel pipes into the election. The pundits are saying we could have a winner by 7:30. If Barack takes a broad collection of eastern states it’s over; for McCain to win, we’ll have to wait like four years (metaphorically speaking, of course).

But The CW might be on to something. I was talking with a local election official who said she expects some local polling places may be open as late as 9 p.m. After that, they still have to process a mountain of absentee ballots that could take all Tuesday and into the night.

So, if that’s the kind of lag time you’re seeing in a not-so swing state, pitty the fool who starts drinking too early in the evening.
