When Charleston County went blue for Barack Obama in November with 55 percent of the vote, it was a thrill for local Democrats who pressed a massive voter turnout machine to the limits (and by limits we mean until the polls were closed on Election Day). But Republicans shouldn’t pack their bags just yet. A number of Charleston County communities supported John McCain — he just couldn’t make up the difference on the peninsula and in North Charleston. It would seem that in several areas, particularly on the coast, Republicans still hold a lead.
