Clemson may not have made their national title run, and the Citadel may have crumbled after a promising 3-1 start, but for the Palmetto State’s nine Division I college football teams, 2008 really wasn’t all that bad. Overall South Carolina teams more than held their own, finishing the regular season with a collective 61-48 record.
With 7-5 seasons, fans of both Charleston Southern and Furman can hold their heads up high. Only Presbyterian’s and the Citadel’s 4-8 records look dismal.
And while USC may be headed to the Outback Bowl, El Cid can at least say they outscored the Cocks in their respective crushing defeats by the Florida Gators. USC couldn’t muster a touchdown in their 56-6 loss, while the Dogs managed two in their 70-19 defeat in Gainesville.
Did we forget Dabo? If Clemson can pull off a whooping of the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Gator Bowl next week, no one will be calling the Tigers cubs, either.
