Some of Charleston’s finest and pet-friendliest musicians banded together Saturday night at the Music Farm to raise funds for the Charleston Animal Society. The sixth annual Cord and Pedal Christmas Ball brought local and regional artists together to perform a few traditional, and many not-so-traditional renditions of favorite holiday songs. The Nativity Scenesters got the crowd moving with Paul McCartney & Wings’ ’80s classic, “Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time,” but pretty much any band featuring someone in full elf costume, like organizer Kevin Hanley (pictured), earned love from the crowd. A costume contest inspired more than a few creative costumes, including several hard-working elves, Santa hats galore, and an impressive Jesus look-a-like with a beautiful angel on his arm. Mrs. Claus (Jessie Bower from Redux) was also on hand, listening to some last minute requests and posing for pictures. The event was brilliantly orchestrated by an adorable, antler-clad Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer (a.k.a. Cary Ann Hearst) as the music flowed from one band to the next, each playing sets of two to three songs. The Whisperjets, festively referred to as the Winterjets for the evening, performed another highlight, covering “Heat Miser” from the animated classic, The Year Without a Santa Claus.
Local musicians rocked that holiday spirit
