The only reason I pass along this bit of Statehouse gossip from Jones on Politics is because I first broke the Ceips/Scarborough story in City Paper in 2006. So hold your nose and read:

I know what you’re thinking. Big surprise, right?

Reliable state house sources have confirmed that former representative Wallace Scarborough (R-Charleston) is engaged to be married to former state senator Catherine Ceips (R-Beaufort). Why is this news? Well for starters, it was less than a month ago that Wallace Scarborough proclaimed that he and Ceips were only friends. The same tired excuse he had been using since having an extra-marital affair with her in 2006, prompting his wife to leave the unfaithful legislator.

Throughout the 2006 and 2008 elections, Scarborough had been adamant regarding his claim that the relationship between himself and Ceips was purely platonic. As most of us already knew, it was just another one of his blatant lies.  After all, this affair was going on the same year Scarborough and Ceips both supported the ’sanctity of marriage’ amendment in South Carolina.

These two ‘peas-in-a-pod’ should be happy together. Both are embattled, beaten, and embarressed former politicians now wondering what the heck happened to their careers. Their far-right ideologies were rejected by their constituents, and their on-going soap opera was never really that interesting to begin with. It was just disgusting.

So from everyone at Jones on Politics, we send out a big congratulations to the ‘new’ couple. We wish them the best and hope they remain very happy together. We just hope they stay far, far away from the state house grounds. The Sanford/State Legislature soap opera is all the drama we can stomach for the next two years.
