The Footlight Players kick off 2009 with another edgy LateNight offering, Neil LaBute’s Autobahn. Directed by College of Charleston professor Franklin Ashley, the show is set in the front seat of a car, which becomes a sort of confessional for the characters in the six intense mini-plays. You’ll witness a make-out session gone awry, the awkward consequences of blacking out and waking up naked in a hotel room, a daughter’s long ride home after her release from rehab, and much more. The play features LaBute’s trademark wit and shocking twists, as seen in his other works, The Shape of Things, In the Company of Men, and Bash: Latter-Day Plays. Local actors in the play include Palmer Stowe, Abby Kammeraad-Campbell, Jesse Budi, Eleanor Hollingsworth, Linda Esposito, Matthew Giedraitis, Regan Blum, Tishala Martinal, Jonathan Brunson, Tish Mann, and Jerod Frazier. Footlight is currently running a special where you can get two tickets for $20, or get the date package with two tickets to two shows for $40. Beer and wine specials will also be available. Sounds a helluva lot better than a night at the movies. Jan. 8-10, 9 p.m. and Jan. 15-17, 9 p.m. $10/Thurs., $15/Fri. & Sat. Footlight Players Theatre, 20 Queen St. (843) 722-4487. www.footlightplayers.net
