Oyster frenzy has slowed down a bit since it kicked off in the fall, but that doesn’t mean you don’t still need your bivalve fix. The Charleston Crab House on James Island is hosting an affordable all-you-can-eat roast on Friday to benefit Pet Helpers. It’s the only independent, no-kill adoption center that maintains regular business hours in South Carolina — we’d say they’re well deserving of the support. Last April’s roast, which was hosted by Rosebank Farms Cafe and Bowens Island Restaurant, fed over 300 guests and raised more than $13,000 for the organization. We can only hope this year’s event will be even more successful. Besides oysters, there will be a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle. Obviously, Pet Helpers is where it is today because of the Lowcountry’s continued support. To all the oyster lovers out there, grab that leash and shucking knife and get ready to shuck. —Reina Gascon-Lopez Fri., Jan. 9, 6-9 p.m. $20, (843) 795-1110, www.pethelpers.org.
