Adam Parker, of The Post and Courier, wrote a piece for today’s paper on the Charleston Symphony Orchestra’s first Masterworks concert at Memminger Auditorium. There are a couple of things to be said. First is that Parker is doing a fine job of culture reporting. I think the daily’s efforts to report on the CSO and other arts groups are a great complement to what we do at City Paper (or course, others may say that City Paper is the complement). The other thing to mention is that I’ve heard a tip from one of the orchestra members (my wife). Admission is general seating at the Memminger, not assigned as it has been for years at the Gaillard Auditorium. First come, first to get a seat where you want to sit. But don’t let proximity be confused for quality of sound. Evidently, there are seats set up right in front of the orchestra. These are not the best seats. The best are against the walls, probably on the sides of the orchestra. That’s where the sound will bounce back to your years. So there you go. Go forth and rejoice to the sounds of the CSO. —John Stoehr
