[image-1]On Friday, the Art Institute hosted a preview party of featured artwork that will be auctioned off at the Heart Association’s Heart Ball. Doctors, art patrons, and artists like Fred Jamar and Robert Lange (left) rubbed elbows in the lobby, munching on morsels prepared by Sean Brock of McCrady’s and Mike Lata of FIG. The crowd quickly learned that they’d have to lurk by the elevators in order to get a taste of the oysters, radishes, and other more unrecognizable offerings being passed around — literally within seconds of their arrival, they were gobbled up. Featured artist Robert Lange presented a fascinating video on his painting process, and Rebecca Darwin, chairwoman of the Heart Ball and CEO of Garden & Gun magazine, spoke about the Heart Association’s need for contributions. Eric Powers, vice chairman of this year’s event and an MUSC cardiologist, also talked up the worthy cause, saying, “Our goal is to one day put people like me out of business.” The Heart Ball will be Jan. 31 at Charleston Place Hotel. —EJ
