Guests of Saturday night’s Chocolate Affair left the Citadel’s Holliday Alumni Center high on endorphins from delicacies donated by some of Charleston’s finest restaurants and catering groups. Aside from remorse of consuming more calories than anyone present would like to calculate, attendees could rest assured that their efforts, and extra time at the gym, were benefiting children through the local nonprofit Communities in Schools. Rob Fowler took a reprieve from forecasting the weather for the evening to serve as the emcee, and Mike Mock used his talents and quick tongue to auction off some of the best prizes and packages Charleston has to offer. Live auction items included an original Jim Booth painting, lunch with Mayor Joseph Riley and Judge Alex Sanders, an emerald and diamond ring from Buckard Exquisite Jewelry, a private charter around Charleston harbor (which went for $9,000!) and a month-old Springer and Lab puppy mix. The evening’s biggest hit, however, was undoubtedly the bottomless chocolate martinis. Part Godiva liquor, part Sky Vodka, one cannot go wrong. —Cara Kelly
